Preparation of the base

Basing the miniature

As last step we can increase the realism of our miniature giving it a good base.

We have to try to simulate the terrain where the miniature rests and this can be obtained in different way. In this example we will use some common river sand.

First of all we will paint the miniature base, because the sand let glimpse the base between the grains and it's better to have a regular color.
In this case I have used a yellowish green but you can also use a brown or the color you prefer.

When the color is dry you can proceed and spread a coat of glue on the base. Usually I use the polyvinyl acetate glue (Vinavil), this glue can be spread by a brush and then you can wash the brush just with water.

Then you have to cover the base with the sand and let the glue dry for at least 1 hour.
When the glue dry you have to take off the sand in excess with a brush.

At the end you can add little rocks or other particulars like grass, skulls or broken arms like on a battle field.

I prefer leave the sand untouched but is also possible to color it in green and the make a drybrush to simulate the grass.

Another good choice to create the grass is to use some flock of threads that you can obtain cutting some threads.
