Finishing
Final finishing include the painting of particulars that increase the miniature
realism.
For the Bretonnian knight used for this guide we don't have too much details to point
out.
In this last phase I have painted the eyes of the bird on the helm as gems and the pole
of the lance as wood.
For the eyes I have painted the eyes hollows in red and then I have dropped a bit of
glossy additive for acrylic colors. This additive can be found in the art stores and can
be gloss or matt and is used to delay the acrylic colors drying. Used alone form a
transparent film and can be used to simulate gems or glossy materials like used leather
(boots, saddles...).
To simulate the wood you can paint in brown the pole, draw some irregular and thin
lines along all the pole and then paint again with the brown diluted at 50% to tone down
the lines and make them see in transparence.
In other miniatures it's possible to find necklaces, inlaid weapons and shields and
other things.
My advice is to limit the colors that you will use to maintain a "real" look
for your miniature.
